Summer Analyst Internship Program

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with analysts and associates to evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions and assess strategic and capital alternatives
  • Contribute to industry‐focused database activities and market research
  • Actively work on a number of live projects at one time and assist with marketing material preparation
  • Perform valuation analyses using techniques including precedent transaction analysis, takeover premium analysis, comparable company analysis, and discounted cash flow analysis
  • Draft client and investor presentations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Sophomore or Junior with an outstanding academic track record and a strong interest in the financial markets; minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills and comfort working with financial data; financial concentration of major preferred but not mandated
  • Solid writing and general communication skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Team player who works well within a collaborative environment but shows independence and resourcefulness in executing tasks
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion are a must
  • Must exhibit professionalism and maturity in dealing with partners, associates, and other members of the firm
  • Must have reliable transportation for the internship

Analyst

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior coverage officers, associates, other analysts, and senior executives of financial institutions to evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions and assess strategic and capital alternatives
  • Actively work on a number of live projects at one time and assist with new business development
  • Perform valuation analyses using techniques including precedent transaction analysis, takeover premium analysis, comparable company analysis and discounted cash flow analysis
  • Draft client presentations, fairness opinion committee documents, offering and merger documents, and investor presentations
  • Contribute to industry-focused database activities and market research

Minimum Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of experience in the FIG investment banking group, or FIG silo of the M&A group, at a leading bulge bracket or boutique investment bank (pre-MBA level)
  • Working knowledge of the insurance industry, M&A, and corporate finance
  • Strong aptitude for analytical and financial modeling – previous experience is required and command of Excel is essential
  • Solid writing and general communication skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Team player who works well within a collaborative environment but shows independence and resourcefulness in executing tasks
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion is a must
  • Must exhibit professionalism and maturity in dealing with partners, associates and senior executives of client companies

Associate

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior coverage officers, other associates, analysts, and senior executives of financial institutions to evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions and assess strategic and capital alternatives
  • Actively work on a number of live projects at one time and assist with new business development
  • Perform valuation analyses using techniques including precedent transaction analysis, takeover premium analysis, comparable company analysis and discounted cash flow analysis
  • Draft and review client presentations, fairness opinion committee documents, offering and merger documents, and investor presentations
  • Contribute to industry-focused database activities and market research
  • Facilitate a culture of mentoring, development and advancement for the firm’s analysts

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in the FIG investment banking group, or FIG silo of the M&A group, at a leading bulge bracket or boutique investment bank (MBA preferred, but for the right candidate may not be required)
  • Deep knowledge of the insurance industry, M&A, and corporate finance
  • Strong aptitude for analytical and financial modeling – previous experience is required and command of Excel is essential
  • Solid writing and general communication skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Team player who works well within a collaborative environment but shows independence and resourcefulness in executing tasks
  • Intellectual curiosity is a must
  • Demonstrable ability to organize and lead analysts throughout the deal execution process
  • Must exhibit professionalism and maturity in dealing with partners and senior executives of client companies

Coverage Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Source new clients and deals and manage those relationships
  • Focus on deal origination and lead the execution team through deal completion
  • Supervise the development of market research, financial analysis and client presentations for evaluating M&A and capital raise transactions
  • Assist in financial diligence on clients and counterparties, leveraging junior members of the team
  • Lead negotiations between clients and review legal documents related to mergers and acquisitions
  • Facilitate a culture of mentoring, development and advancement for the junior members

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in insurance M&A and corporate finance.  The candidate should have recently held senior responsibilities at a leading bulge bracket or boutique investment bank
  • Track record of sourcing and completing insurance M&A and corporate finance transactions in the $50M-$500M range
  • An extensive rolodex focused on current, solid and meaningful relationships with potential clients
  • Deep knowledge within the insurance industry is required
  • Proven leadership and collaborative abilities
  • Self-motivated, positive and energetic; but also team-oriented
  • Strong educational and professional pedigree
  • This position is not ideally suited to product coverage bankers such as those in leveraged finance, financial sponsors or private placements groups
