Vice President

Sherman & Company is hiring one or more Vice Presidents, based in our Charlotte or our New York office. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a VP or Senior Associate working for a boutique or bulge bracket investment banking firm operating in the insurance or healthcare sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Source new clients and deals and manage those relationships
  • Focus on deal origination and lead the execution team through deal completion
  • Support senior bankers in winning new mandates and fulfillment of 5 year business plans
  • Actively work on numerous engagements at all times and also contribute meaningfully and simultaneously to the firm’s marketing efforts
  • Supervise the development of new client research, market research, financial analysis, and client presentations
  • Facilitate a culture of mentoring, development, and advancement for the junior members

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in insurance or healthcare M&A. The candidate should have recently held significant responsibilities at a leading boutique or bulge bracket investment bank.
  • A rolodex focused on current, solid, and meaningful relationships with potential clients
  • Deep knowledge within the insurance or healthcare industry is required
  • Proven leadership and collaborative abilities
  • Self-motivated, positive, and energetic; but also team-oriented
  • Strong educational and professional pedigree
  • All applicable securities licenses

Coverage Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Source new clients and deals and manage those relationships
  • Focus on deal origination and lead the execution team through deal completion
  • Supervise the development of new client and market research, financial analysis and client presentations for evaluating M&A and capital raise transactions
  • Assist in financial diligence on clients and counterparties, leveraging junior members of the team
  • Lead negotiations between clients and review legal documents related to mergers and acquisitions
  • Facilitate a culture of mentoring, development and advancement for the junior members

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in insurance or healthcare M&A and corporate finance.  The candidate should have recently held senior responsibilities at a bulge bracket or boutique investment bank
  • Track record of sourcing and completing  M&A and corporate finance transactions in the $50M-$1B range
  • An extensive rolodex focused on current, solid and meaningful relationships with potential clients
  • Deep knowledge within the insurance or healthcare industry is required
  • Proven leadership and collaborative abilities
  • Self-motivated, positive and energetic; but also team-oriented
  • Strong educational and professional pedigree

Associate

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior coverage officers, other associates, analysts, and senior client executives to evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions and assess strategic and capital alternatives
  • Actively work on a number of live projects at one time and assist with new business development
  • Perform valuation analyses
  • Draft and review client presentations, as well as fairness opinion committee documents
  • Contribute to industry-focused database activities and market research
  • Facilitate a culture of mentoring, development and advancement for the firm’s analysts

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience at a bulge bracket or boutique investment bank (MBA preferred, but for the right candidate may not be required)
  • Deep knowledge of the insurance or healthcare industry, M&A, and corporate finance
  • Strong aptitude for analytical and financial modeling – previous experience is required and command of Excel is essential
  • Solid writing and general communication skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Team player who works well within a collaborative environment but shows independence and resourcefulness in executing tasks
  • Intellectual curiosity is a must
  • Demonstrable ability to organize and lead analysts throughout the deal execution process
  • Must exhibit professionalism and maturity in dealing with partners and senior executives of client companies

Analyst

  • Solid writing and general communication skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Team player who works well within a collaborative environment but shows independence and resourcefulness in executing tasks
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion is a must
  • Must exhibit professionalism and maturity in dealing with partners, associates and senior executives of client companies

Summer Analyst Internship Program

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with analysts and associates to evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions and assess strategic and capital alternatives
  • Contribute to industry‐focused database activities and market research
  • Actively work on a number of live projects at one time and assist with marketing material preparation
  • Perform valuation analyses using techniques including precedent transaction analysis, takeover premium analysis, comparable company analysis, and discounted cash flow analysis
  • Draft client and investor presentations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Junior with an outstanding academic track record and a strong interest in the financial markets; minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills and comfort working with financial data; financial concentration of major preferred but not mandated
  • Solid writing and general communication skills, as well as attention to detail
  • Team player who works well within a collaborative environment but shows independence and resourcefulness in executing tasks
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion are a must
  • Must exhibit professionalism and maturity in dealing with partners, associates, and other members of the firm
  • Must have reliable transportation for the internship
